2021 Wedding Photography Diary Re-opens
As the COVID-19 wedding restrictions slowly begin to unwind and my 2020 couples now have much clearer plans for how they proceed from here, I am now reopening my 2021 wedding photography diary.
COVID-19 and Weddings
I’m not going to lie, it’s been a horrible time for the industry, and of course for those who should have been getting married this year. But, all being well, I will photograph my first wedding of 2020 next month! If you’d have told me this time last year that it would have been September before I would do so, I would have thought you were completely mad. Such is the havoc that COVID has wreaked.
Short-notice 2020 Wedding?
As things stand, wedding ceremonies in England can take place. Thanks to a recent change in government guidance, couples can now also host receptions for up to 30 people in total (including your wedding photographer!). Things are still clearly along way from normal, though, and, as well as the numerical limits, very little in the way of partying can actually take place.
How you and your partner feel about these restrictions is going to be completely unique to you. The wedding I’m due to photograph next month is for a couple who have completely embraced it. In fact, they only received the go-ahead to get married at all a few weeks ago. They have gone from having nothing in place to being completely ready to do this in an extremely short period of time. This is worth bearing in mind if any of you are toying with the idea of just getting on with it and getting married regardless! Short-notice supplier availability at present is better than ever, and businesses will be EXTREMELY grateful for the work!
While we as an industry have been appreciative of the government support we’ve received, the one-size-fits-all approach used across the country has rather overlooked the fact that the wedding industry is hugely seasonal. That Self-Employment Income Support Scheme payments are only covering part of the year is not great when we have essentially lost a full year’s income through no fault of our own; we would all much rather be out there doing what we do, believe me!
2021 Wedding Photography Diary Re-opens
For couples with larger families, being restricted to such small numbers of guests is far from ideal, and, from what I’ve heard, venues are being extremely accommodating with giving would-be brides and grooms the opportunity to switch to a 2021 date. Having closed my 2021 diary until I was sure I could fulfill the needs of my 2020 couples, I am now at the stage where everyone either plans to go ahead with 2020 regardless or has a 2021 back-up date.
It has been so lovely that everyone has checked MY availability BEFORE rearranging their dates! I am therefore delighted to report that my diary for 2021 is once again open! There’s limited Spring availability, but there are lots of free dates for peak Summer weekends, which I would normally expect to have filled.
Wedding Photography at other times
I am also very happy to talk to anyone who is considering getting married in 2020 who possibly wasn’t before. As you can imagine, aside from a handful of dates, the diary is extremely thin right through to Spring 2021. Because of the restrictions on what you’re able to do, I’m also happy to tweak packages for shorter bookings within that period, as my standard 8-hour minimum is possibly too much for most people in the current climate.
And, as ever, the diary for 2022 and beyond remains open and is filling slowly but surely!
Am I the right wedding photographer for you?
Please have a look around the website and see if you think we might gel. If you would like to get together for a chat and to see some examples of books from real weddings I’ve photographed, I’m very happy to make an appointment for you to do so at the Shout Weddings & Events showroom in Kettering, where I’m based 😊
Thanks for reading, and I hope to hear from you soon!
Kind regards,
Karl
