Field Farm – “Bring Your Horse on Holiday”

Let’s just put it out there, Field Farm is awesome!  The facilities for your equine friends are superb.  There’s an indoor arena (not that we used it while I was there), show jumping arena, and a fab 1.2 mile cross country course on site.  The beach is less than a mile away!

There’s a range of cottages, caravans and some brand new glamping pods, the latter being situated alongside the very pretty fishing lake, which guests are allowed to use.

The weather forecast for my daytrip became pretty rubbish overnight.  With an actual wedding to shoot on the Friday (!), it was now or never for me, however.  The crystal-clear blue skies at Peterborough had given way by the time I got to Boston, and it was grey-grey-grey from there on in.

Beach Ride – Wolla Bank Beach

The rain started mid-morning, and it was pretty grim by the time we met back up with the ponies and riders at Wolla Bank Beach.

For the vast majority of the riders, this was their first ever beach ride. For many of the ponies it was the first time they’d ever seen anything quite like the North Sea!  Some were rather unimpressed by the water, in truth, but all loved a good hack along the beach!

They were a few areas of standing water on the beach itself, which most of the ponies were more tolerant of. We got some pretty awesome pictures of some of them hurtling towards me.  It was just a shame the weather wasn’t a bit kinder….

We had some lunch and a wander around Skegness, and the weather was looking quite a bit better.  The girls wanted some pictures in the show jumping arena and on the cross-country course.

Field Farm – Show Jumping Arena

The light was starting to get rather lovely, though a few of the ponies looked rather heavier-legged than they’d been at the start of the day!  We still captured some nice pictures of those who could barely raise a leg walking around the arena!

Field Farm – Cross-Country Course

It’s a BIG course, and we were never going to do all of it that evening.  We just picked a few obstacles, and those who fancied it went for it!

The water provided some amazing photo opportunities in the loveliest light imaginable!

There was just time to pose in front of the landmarks before it was time to get the horses turned out for the night and me on the road home.

Field Farm even has two great places to have group pictures taken.

As it says in Field Farm’s tagline, “Bring Your Horse on Holiday”!  The site has everything you could ever wish for, and everyone loved it.  We’re already booked to return in 2022 and can’t wait!
