After photographing parties on Friday and Saturday nights last week, Easter Sunday was all about Kelmarsh Country Show, held in the grounds of Kelmarsh Hall, just off the A14 in Northamptonshire.
The weather forecast was none-too-encouraging, but we decided we would brave the elements regardless. As we arrived, they were looking all too accurate, with a stiff breeze, light drizzle in the air and the sun that was present at the start of the day having being surpassed by a considerable overcast.
Thankfully, the wet stuff did not hang around too long, and thereafter it was dry right the way through to our departure just after the second appearance by the Rockwood Dog Display Team.
One item that was understandably beaten by the weather was the Supermarine Spitfire T9 that had been intended to put in an appearance from the Boultbee Academy at Goodwood Aerodrome, Sussex.
There was plenty to look at, and indeed get involved with, on the ground, but the undisputed stars of the show for me were Gerard Naprous’ incredible The Devil’s Horsemen Stunt Team, based at Wychwood Stud near Milton Keynes.
Though the name may not be familiar to you, you will undoubtedly have seen The Devil’s Horsemen’s work at the cinema or on television. Among a huge list of credits are appearances in the likes of Dr Who, Merlin, Game of Thrones, Downton Abbey, Maleficent, Les Miserables and Jane Eyre.
When you see them in action for yourself, it’s not hard to see why they are held in such high regard.
Unfortunately the second day of the 2016 Kelmarsh Country Show had to be cancelled due to the presence of Storm Katie passing through the area.
I mainly provide event photography services in Northamptonshire, Leicestershire, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Rutland, Oxfordshire & Warwickshire, in towns such as Northampton, Kettering, Wellingborough, Oundle, Corby, Peterborough, Leicester, Huntingdon, Rushden, Towcester, Rugby, Daventry & Oakham. I am, however, only too happy to travel beyond those locations to capture the magic of your day.
