Ben Atkinson Action Horses – Lamport Hall Rural Life
Ben Atkinson Action Horses provides a renowned equestrian team known for its captivating performances combining horsemanship with stunts and action sequences. Founded by Ben Atkinson, a skilled horse trainer and performer, the team has gained international recognition for its thrilling displays of horsemanship in various arenas, from film and television to live events. Having learnt Ben Atkinson Action Horses would be performing at the Lamport Hall Rural Life festival over the Whit Bank Holiday weekend, it was a no-brainer to attend and take in a show.
Lamport Hall Rural Life
The Lamport Hall Rural Life Festival is a vibrant celebration of rural heritage, held annually at Lamport Hall in Northamptonshire, England. Showcasing traditional crafts, farming practices, and rural pursuits, the festival offers visitors a glimpse into the rich history and culture of the countryside. From demonstrations of blacksmithing and woodworking to displays of vintage agricultural machinery, the event highlights the skills and traditions passed down through generations. With live music, local food vendors, and activities for all ages, the Lamport Hall Rural Life Festival is a cherished gathering that honours the timeless charm of rural life.
Ben Atkinson Action Horses
What sets Ben Atkinson Action Horses apart is their dedication to training both horses and riders to perform complex maneuvers with precision and flair. Each member of the team undergoes rigorous training to ensure safety and seamless execution during performances. From daring trick riding displays to synchronised movements, the routines showcase the incredible bond between horse and rider.
One of the team’s most notable achievements is their work in the entertainment industry, providing horses and talent for major film and television productions. Their expertise in choreographing horseback action scenes has led to collaborations with top directors and producers, contributing to the success of numerous projects.
Beyond their work on screen, Ben Atkinson Action Horses also entertains audiences with live shows, captivating crowds with their high-energy performances. Whether it’s at equestrian events, festivals, or special engagements, the team never fails to leave spectators in awe with its dynamic displays of skill and athleticism.
In addition to its performances, Ben Atkinson Action Horses is committed to promoting the welfare of horses and advocating for responsible horsemanship. Through education and outreach programs, it strives to inspire a new generation of riders while emphasising the importance of respect and care for these magnificent animals.
Liberty Training
A major part of the performance involves Ben Atkinson himself demonstrating the results of his liberty training work.
Liberty training with horses is a practice centred on developing a deep, trusting relationship between horse and handler without the use of restraints. It emphasises communication through body language, vocal and visual cues, and mutual respect, allowing the horse to express its natural behaviours and instincts. Through liberty training, horses learn to follow their handler’s lead willingly, perform intricate manoeuvres, and demonstrate remarkable cooperation and responsiveness. This form of training fosters a strong bond built on understanding and empathy, resulting in a partnership based on freedom, harmony, and mutual trust between human and horse.
Familiar Faces
There were a couple of familiar faces to us working with the team at Lamport Hall. Chelsea Marie, who we’ve had a trick riding lesson from at the Knights of Middle England, and who we’ve seen perform with the Knights of Middle England at Warwick Castle, was helping out outside the arena. Meanwhile, Chrystal Parker was part of the trick-riding section. We’d also seen her performing at Warwick Castle.
Favourite Part?
For me, it’s the liberty stuff continues to amaze. The sight of Ben putting six horses down on the ground and then making them rise half-way up, was impressive, as was them running around in a perfect line abreast either side of him. I particularly liked the part where he persuaded four horses, alternating between facing forwards and backwards, to walk backwards in line together.
Conclusions?
If you get the chance to watch at Ben Atkinson Action Horses display, it comes highly recommended. Every element will leave you seriously impressed.
