As many of you will realise, 2015 was the year where I really started to push my wedding photography services, and I met lots of lovely couples planning to get married this year as a result. The more I’ve met, the more I’ve realised that the packages I have been offering aren’t quite right, so I think it makes sense to start 2016 by realigning them.
Clearly, anybody who already has a contract in place with me will be unaffected – you will get exactly what you signed up for – but for those of you arranging free wedding consultations from this point forward, these will be the basic packages around which we’ll talk.
Allow me to walk you through some of the processes and introduce the new packages.
Wedding Photography Consultation
I am always more than happy to visit you in your home – or at a venue of your choosing – to meet you, have a chat about what you’ve got planned for your special day and to give me the opportunity to show you a typical photobook of my work, which explains far better than I can put into words how I like to try to tell your story.
This is a free, no-obligation service and is the first stage towards capturing some magical images on your wedding day.
Venue Meeting, Walk-around and (potential) Pre-wedding Shoot
Irrespective of the package you choose, once contracts have been signed and your non-refundable booking fee paid, we’ll arrange to get together 4 to 8 weeks ahead of your wedding day at both your ceremony and reception venues. This is absolutely essential as it gives us the chance to renew our acquaintances and allows us the opportunity to start to formulate a photography plan for the day itself.
I get to:
- See where the guests will arrive and enter;
- See where the bridal car will pull up;
- See where the registers will be signed;
- (Hopefully) talk to the person who will be conducting your ceremony to find out what restrictions they impose. This can vary tremendously, and it’s vital that all parties are aware of expectations ahead of the day itself. Some things that you took for granted may simply not be possible;
- Work out the most suitable locations for group shots;
- Identify a bad weather back-up plan(s);
- Look for nice, quiet, tranquil areas where I can whisk you away for a few minutes;
It really is one of the most important parts in the success or otherwise of your wedding photography.
Additionally, if either of you feels less than confident in front of the camera, it is the perfect opportunity to try to address that.
Time-based Packages
The level of coverage you receive will now be set against the clock rather than against ‘events’ in the day (I have one booking for this year where the couple are not getting married until 1700, so it would be completely unfair to charge them the full ‘including preparations’ price when they do not require me to arrive until 1500). The basis for any package now will be the timeframe for which you need my services.
As a rough guide, if you wanted the coverage to include your bridal preparations, I would expect to arrive sometime between two to two-and-a-half hours before your scheduled ceremony start time, depending upon the distance to the ceremony venue from the place you’re getting ready.
If you want coverage purely from the ceremony onwards, I would plan to arrive around 45 minutes ahead of your scheduled ceremony start time to enable me to record the guest arrivals.
How long you require me for thereafter is down to you.
Number of Photographers
Despite the benefits it brings, only a very tiny fraction (less than 10%) of the couples I’ve met ahead of the 2016 wedding season have wanted me to have a second photographer present. As such, this is now considered an ‘add-on’ rather than a package option.
Colour AND Black and White Digital Images
The smallest number of different, fully-edited, digital images I delivered to a wedding photography client in 2015 was 350 (from an 8-hour day). What I’ve learnt is that it’s worth providing both colour and black and white versions of each image at the time they are presented to the client (it is only inevitable that you will be asked to ‘switch’ some at a later date otherwise). This will come as standard now (including for those who have already booked me for 2016), and I think it is worth pointing this out, as you can end up with two fantastically different versions of the same shot.
Image Delivery
First and foremost, all images you receive from me will have been professionally edited. Initially, this will be via a series of password-protected galleries on my eventandweddingphotography.co.uk website. Whether you choose to share those links (and passwords) with anybody else is entirely up to you.
Once you have made me aware of any images that you do not like for any reason, you will be supplied with both high-resolution files for printing and discretely-watermarked, low-resolution files for easy sharing via email or on social media, on your choice of either DVDs or a USB memory stick.
Photobooks
Every single couple I’ve met for a wedding photography consultation in 2015 has been impressed with the quality of my now preferred photobooks. As such, I have decided to drop the Graphistudio album option from this point in time.
Whether you receive a photobook at all is still entirely up to you and is a package option. I’m going to offer three different sizes of photobook to those of you who do want one, depending upon the duration of the package you take. 8-hour photobook packages will come with a 90-page version; 10-hour photobook packages will come with a 100-page version; 12-hour photobook packages will come with a 120-page version.
You will be fully engaged with the selection process, initially by picking out any images you do not wish to appear, and then having the opportunity to change any once the initial draft is ready.
Prints
All packages qualify for 5x up to 18”x12” prints and 30x up to 12”x8” prints. I’ve added the words “up to” as 18”x12” sounds quite intimidating to some people, and you might prefer smaller! Again, you will be fully engaged in the selection process.
Things to Remember
My aim is not to embarrass you or catch you out! Ultimately you have complete control over precisely what pictures appear in the public domain from your day, and I want you to want to share them, since that is from where my next round of bookings is likely to come!
The more comfortable you feel with me, the greater the likelihood of producing lovely images. I will do my best to relax and reassure you, taking away your stresses rather than adding to them.
It is YOUR day and I will be as active or passive in engineering photographic opportunities as YOU wish. Even if you prefer a more passive approach, I will still be working hard to deliver candid shots of as many of your guests as I can.
The Packages
The package prices quoted below are for a peak-season (01 April to 30 September) wedding taking place on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Discounts are available at other times. For a personalised quote, please drop me a line or give me a call.
