Christmas-Themed Equine Photo Shoots in and Around Northamptonshire

Christmas-themed horse photo shoots have become increasingly popular in recent years.  After being asked by a few people to do one for them, I’ve decided to add it to the list of equine photography services I offer.

Black Background Photography

Unlike lots of other photographers who do their shoots in the open doorways of an indoor school, I use genuine black background techniques, combined with the use of studio lights.

Studio lights provide me with complete control over the lighting environment, allowing me to create consistent and flattering lighting for my subjects. This is especially important for equine photography, as horses have a delicate coat that can be easily washed out by harsh sunlight or thrown into shadow by natural light. With studio lights, I can carefully position and adjust the lights to create the desired effect, whether it’s a soft, diffused light for a portrait or a dramatic, backlit shot.

Studio lighting eliminates the variability of natural light, ensuring that I can achieve consistent results from one shoot to the next. I can use my studio lights to create a wide range of lighting effects, from soft and diffused to dramatic and high-contrast. This versatility allows me to experiment with different lighting styles to achieve the look I desire for my equine portraits. Studio lights can also be used to create special effects, such as rim lighting or backlighting, which can add depth and dimension to equine portraits.

With studio lights and working inside an indoor arena, I can shoot year-round and create stunning equine portraits regardless of the weather – meaning I won’t have to reschedule your shoot if it’s raining!

Christmas-Themed Sessions – £75 per horse, minimum of four horses per location

Christmas sessions generally take place at the yard where your horse(s) are based.  

Please note, we do require the use of an indoor school for the session.  Where relevant, the cost of this is your responsibility.  It will take approximately 15 minutes to setup the backdrop and lights and a similar amount of time to take down and vacate the indoor school.  Please bear this in mind when booking out facilities. 

There is a minimum requirement of four horses for a session to be considered viable for a pure Christmas-themed equine photo shoot session.

What’s Included?

30 miles of travel in each direction from NN14 4HY is included.  Each additional mile is charged at 50p per mile.

I will have at least one assistant with me, who is used to working with and handling horses.

Use of my props and equipment.

Each horse is given a 30-minute slot, during which time we’ll get the horse used to the lights, then we’ll fit the wreath, and then work through a series of poses and angles to ensure we have plenty of lovely pictures for you to choose from.

Time permitting, you’ll also get the opportunity to appear in a picture or two – Christmas Equine Photo Shoots – You in the Picture

Each 30-minute slot includes 2x up to 18”x12” prints and the high-resolution digital files of the images you select for printing.

After the session, I’ll go away and edit the images.  You’ll then get to see watermarked copies in a password-protected web gallery, from where you’ll be able to select the images you would like to keep from the session.

Optional Extras

Once you have reviewed your gallery, additional images can be purchased at £15.00 each, including an up to 18”x12” print and the relevant super-high-resolution digital file, if required.
