Woughton on the Green is a beautiful village on the outskirts of Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire. I was delighted to be booked to provide wedding photography duties for a lovely couple there back in March.
Woughton on the Green’s history dates back to medieval times, and it appeared in the Domesday Book of 1066 as ‘Ulchetone’. By the middle of the twelfth century, it had adopted its current name. Its proximity to the Grand Union Canal and later the railway meant it had grown to be a large village by the reign of Queen Victoria. Today, it is a suburb of Milton Keynes.
Sigi and Steve’s wedding all took place at two different locations within the village, just a matter of metres apart.
Wedding Preparations – Mercure Milton Keynes Parkside House, Woughton on the Green
Sigi and her party all got ready in a separate building at the lovely Mercure Milton Keynes Parkside House. The same venue would later host the wedding breakfast and reception.
Wedding Ceremony – St Mary’s Church, Woughton on the Green
St Mary’s Church was built in the thirteenth century and is beautiful both inside and out.
Sigi and Steve had a small but select band of guests present for the formal part of their day. Opportunities to take pictures were rather restricted during the ceremony. Thankfully, there were still a few nice interactions during the periods where I was allowed to take them.
At the conclusion of the service, we moved outside for group shots and then on to the lych gate for the confetti shots. Sadly it was a bit grey and cold.
Wedding Drinks Reception – Mercure Milton Keynes Parkside House, Woughton on the Green
Having got what we needed in the bag, we made the short walk back to the Mercure, where drinks were served.
After a few more group shots (some less informal ones), I whisked Sigi and Steve away for some rather more intimate ones of the two of them. Despite the cold and slightly damp conditions, Sigi was absolutely brilliant. She even scaled a 6-rung ladder over a barbed-wire topped fence in her dress! There was good reason for it. Sigi originates from Lithuania, and bridges are used in their culture in the same way as we carry our brides across the threshold. So it was important for her to have some pictures of Steve carrying her across the bridge (even if there was no water passing beneath it!).
Though there was quite a lot of building work going on at the Mercure, we still managed to find lots of nice areas for pictures. The birdcage and swing were particular favourites, and there would be lots of other things you could work with on a slightly sunnier day.
Back inside, the couple had invested in a ball pit to help keep the children entertained, and they loved it!
Wedding Breakfast & Evening Reception – Mercure Milton Keynes Parkside House, Woughton on the Green
The couple opted for a delicious hot buffet for their guests to enjoy.
Steve certainly impressed his new family by delivering his Groom’s speech in both English and Lithuanian! No mean feat when the two languages are so different!
The evening entertainment included a disco and a magician, but the undoubted highlight was the highly-choreographed ‘mash up’ first dance, which was absolutely brilliant!
Wishing Sigi, Steve and their little family all the very best for their lives together.
